Civil Engineering

Our civil group combines a wide range of experience in civil engineering with depth and creativity to produce sound and enduring results.

The group continues to challenge itself by seeking innovative solutions for difficult construction sites and staying abreast of advances in the field.

Their projects range from an onsite wastewater system for a private residence to a 6000-acre golf course development. Regardless of size, meticulous attention is paid to detail.

Functions provided by the group are:

A fine example of the civil group’s ability is the Cornerstone Development south of Montrose. This project involved developing 412 parcels in mountainous terrain in Ouray and Montrose counties. Infrastructure elements included the design and construction management of over 30 miles of roads, a potable water distribution system with seven booster stations and a 500,000 gallon tank and a 20,000 gallon per day wastewater treatment facility with an integrated central sewer collection system.

Irrigation water for the development’s 18-hole golf course is contained in a 120 acre-foot reservoir behind a 39 foot high embankment designed by Buckhorn’s civil group. Other design tasks included wetlands mitigation, storm water management, structural slope analysis and stabilizations, surface water drainage systems, revegetation and permitting with county, state and federal agencies.

Access to the development involved designing and constructing improvements to a county collector road and the design and construction of improvements to a nearby state highway, as well as the design and construction of over 13 miles of waterline improvements to the region’s potable water transmission system.
